The first course should be set below grade. 2-4" compacted fill should be used as a bed beneath the wall. Clean granular fill should be packed behind the wall to allow ground water to escape.
Corners and convex curves may be made by cutting units with a masonry blade. Concave curves do not require cutting except on the top course.

As you work, check each unit with a carpenter's level, from front to back as well as side to side. It's very important that the first course is straight and level, so that everything following will be, too.
If desired, the units may be be glued together with a heavy-duty exterior construction adhesive.

Wheelbarrow
If the ground is sloped along the length of the wall, for the most eye-pleasing results, keep Manitou Stone level and step them into the ground.
